A custom designed video mixer for the CBC that allows you to add and edit short NHL clips to create to create your own video mashup. Add sound, upload your own content, or send to a friend.
In some ways, this is every Hockey fan’s dream.
The CBC Hockey Night Mashup. A significant highlight in our 10 year career in the interactive business. Remixers are not new (JumpCut and Adobe Premier Express made some cool ones), but the beauty of this one is the way it displays the awesome content. Hockey = Awesome.
Hockey Night Mashup allows users to browse through a large library of NHL footage to choose clips of great Hockey moments and put them together to create their own mashup video. You could make a video about anything from greatest “fighting moments” to “greatest goals” to even your favorite team scoring goal after goal on other players. To make your video more intense, you could add a soundtrack using the licensed music library.
Some of us like to make videos of the Leafs beating up the Habs and scoring goals like crazy. That is because it’s a sight we don’t get to see too often.
Then we thought, what would make this Application even cooler? We decided this would be letting users upload their own video content so they could make mashups of themselves and their friends playing hockey. Users could then download their mp4 video to their computers, share and post comments with friends (this functionality courtesy of FileMobile and their tool MediaFactory). Because everyone knows half the fun of hockey is s*** talking your friend’s skills and favorite teams.
Our goal was to create a user experience that would cater to a pro-sumer, but work for the video editing neophyte and could still be appreciated by an editor on his edit suite.
We really wanted to pull out all the stops on this one. Added polishes include the following:
Drag and drop features that make it feel like a desktop application The application is completely re-sizeable, so the bigger monitor you have the better for you. Hey, some people really need to see replays of the Sens losing on a huge screen.
A killer UI and custom cursor to display different behavior. We’re just fancy like that.
The application supports H.264 16:9 video, so it’s the best possible quality for web video. That means it looks pretty on the internet kids.
A live preview so you see how your video looks in real-time.
Organization is key. You can save your favourite assets to a My+ Clips folder so when you’re creating your video you know just where to find them.
A save feature. Cooking some steaks that need your immediate attention? If you leave and close the program, your entire working session is automatically saved on your desktop. This is one of the coolest features that surprises most people when they play with it for the first time.
