MuchMusic’s search for the next VJ. Contestants battle it out for the coolest job in Canada. We helped fans determine their coolness by voting online.
If you grew up in Canada in the last 30 years, you have no doubt heard of the MuchMusic VJ. (Who doesn’t remember Rick the Temp?) Arguably one of the coolest jobs ever, this elite bunch are responsible for hosting MuchMusic live shows, interviewing musicians, reporting on music news, going to awards parties… and uh, some other cool things.
In need of some fresh blood, Much decided to launch another round of the ever successful “Search for the Next VJ” campaign, only this year, they decided to do it 2.0 style. 2.0 style means using the power of the internet to determine the popularity of each contestant- which is where we came in.
We helped Much by building an interactive site allowing fans to determine their favorite finalists. Users could rate all entries “hot” or “cool,” fan them on facebook, follow them on Twitter, or subscribe to their YouTube pages. Finalists were narrowed down to 16, then 8 (soon to be 4, and ultimately 1) by their fan support and following. Is there a more honest and interactive way to determine who deserves to have one of the sweetest jobs in the Country? We think not.
